New Verse

*I'm starting a whole new song from scratch because I didn't like the last one
*Here's the first verse and I'm currently working on the transition into the chorus

Let me hide in your room for just a little while
There is no more time to sit and reconcile
I will wait for all the rain to quiet down
Even when the thunder makes a silent sound

Day # 24

*I haven't been fully inspired these past few days, but I'm back to writing:

I know where you hide
I'm aware that you're free
I can help you escape and somehow see
that the world's silence is not a reflection of our youth
hold back hold back hold back

Day # 23: Second Verse?

Second Verse:

We're not afraid to face our youth
we can't go back and sooth the pain
that left us free and bold
and unaware of what we hold

Day # 22: A chorus?

*Since I already wrote the verse, I'm officially starting the chorus

We're breaking down
we're tricklin' out
and all our truth will soon be broken
we won't let the dream cover what we used to be

Day # 21

Chord of the day:

Cm7/F: x35363

Verse: We will never know where we go when we sleep
But now we're facing all our realistic dreams
Time is never quite enough when we're awake
You can't count on all our realistic fate

Day # 20

*Brand new lyrics, possibly the outro for my new song

We will never know where we go when we sleep
but now we're facing all our realistic dreams
Imagination's running quickly through our heads
It's time to wake up from this figment we call home

Day # 17: Extension to my daily blog

*So, I thought of a cool extension to this "lyric a day" blog... I want to find a new chord every day and write the tablature for that chord. This way, I can start to utilize these new chords or new chord inversions into my original songs. I'll continue to write the lyrics when I'm inspired, but the other days will be new chords. This may be a helpful blog to look back at if you're a song writer or guitar player. There's nothing more helpful than learning new chords... Enjoy!

Today's chord was: Dmaj7 add 9

e---0-------
b---2------
g---2------
d---0------
a---X------
E---X-----

Day 16

an artificial boundary has split us from reality
you can't seem to find my darkened tone of voice
we will soon be up
free and cured and bold
until then, you'll have to run

Day # 15: New song

*Scratch the other song I was writing, it wasn't going anywhere
*This is a brand new one that's a bit slower in tempo, but it's still pretty catchy
*Here's a start on the verse (I made a guitar part for it already):

Why don't we talk anymore
You used to be the one that I waited for
But now the line we draw is deep within our heads
and we are just a figment of imagination
Imagination running through our heads

Day # 14

*I was looking over what is written of our Brecht movie so far and the underlying theme is really deep.
*I noticed that the lyrics I've been writing lately deal with this underlying theme of the choice between leading or being lead
*I'm still working on the chorus, but here are a few more lines...

When we were young, we were imaginary
escaped to this sanctuary
unaware of all our boundaries
we built this with our minds

Day # 13

*lines from the chorus

we're not from here
we're no longer home or free
and we can't face the edge
when we're headin down down down

Day # 12: Happy with a verse

*I haven't documented in a while, but I've been working on this song for at least 15 minutes a day... once I get started on a song, I am always tempted to finish
*I have not completed the chorus yet, but I do have one full verse that I'm happy to share:

When I was young, I was free and bold
We are young but not the same in this boundless world
There is a light that we must follow
to get back where we are
Now i'm wise and I'm aware we're blind
of all the giants that will try to bring us down
But we're not afraid of sorrow
or our chance to alter time

Day # 11: Start of a new song

*I've been really behind but I've already started a new song with three basic chords: A G A G B

These are the lyrics I'm toying with right now:
Possibly a chorus?

You are the morning
I am just your daydream
We have awakened
and you can't stop talking to me
but when we're up close and we're looking down down down

Day # 10: New song, new lyrics

*Today I started my brand new song, which seems to contain a darker tone
*Here are a few lyrics I'm messin' around with at the moment:

when I was young, I was free and I was bold
We are young but not the same in this boundless world
There is a sky that we must follow
to get back where we are

Day # 9: I wrote a song!

My song is finished and up on youtube... I'm really happy with the result
Here's the link to my sister and I singing my first original song: "Bring you home"
Please give me some feedback....

Here are the lyrics to "Bring you home":

Verse 1:
It's Friday night and you're on my mind
I drove all night just to come inside
You're hiding there in the evening light
Turn around, open up, and I'll bring you home

You're not aware when I look at you
That everything is right on cue
Don't you fear, the atmosphere will clear up soon.

Chorus:
I'll be singin'
Hold on
You're safe the world is never gonna catch you
Look it's the break of dawn
The sun is up, the stars are all around you

Verse 2:
It's Monday now and you can't get by
Your cheeks are soaked, the tears you've cried
You're standing there in the morning bright
Stand up tall, we can fight
To bring you home

Your toes are cold but your hands are warm
Our lives are like the changing storm
Here and now
Is all we have to help us through

Chorus:
While I sing
Hold on
You're safe the world is never gonna catch you
Look it's the break of dawn
The sun is up, the stars are all around you

Bridge:
Winds change
Colors fade
But I'll be your solid ground

Day # 8: An outro

I have A CHORUS AND TWO VERSES DONE...
Still working on the bridge but the outro lyrics could be:

Welcome home, reality's here
Your fabricated life is just a memory now
Welcome home, reality's here

Day # 7: Second Verse

It’s Monday now and we can’t get by

There is no time to sacrifice

Your standing there in the morning bright

Stand up tall, we can fight

To bring you home

Your toes are cold but your hands are warm

Our lives are like the changing storm

Here and now

Is all we have to help us through

.... Still don't know what it's about yet, help me decide

Day # 6: New Lyrics

So, I kept the same chords and added a broader plot to the lyrics

Came up with a verse and a chorus... I'll post the chords tomorrow

Let me know if you can grab a story out of these...

Verse:

it's friday night, you're on my mind

i drove all night just to come inside

your hiding there in the evening light

Turn around, open up

and I'll bring you home

you're not aware when I look at you

that everything is right on cue

don't you fear

the atmosphere will clear up soon

Chorus:

i'll be singin'

hold on

you're safe, the world is never gonna catch you

Look it's the break of dawn

the sun is up, the stars are all around you

and we're here

Day # 5: Structure

So, I've been working on the chorus all day as well as the flow between each verse leading into the chorus... I'm happy with the result
No lyric writing today, but I do have the tabs for the 2 guitar parts if anyone wants to play around with it...
My goal is to finish this song by the end of the week and put it up on my youtube channel...

These are the main Chords played throughout the song (they're basic chords with some added notes):
Strum for TWO BEATS on the FIRST and LAST chord (everything else one beat):

HINT: Strumming pattern, Down-down-up-down-up-down-down-up-down-up counts as 2 beats for a chord
e---- 5-----3----2----3----3----3
B----3-----1----3----3----3----3
G----0---- 0----0----0----0----0
D----4---- 2----0----0----0----0
A----5---- 3----x----2----0----2
E----x----- x----x----3----2----3

Second guitar lead:
e----5---3---2---3---2-----5---7---2---3---2
b-------------------------3------------------------3

Day # 4: Finally, a solid melody

I finally got a solid melody today that keeps playing over and over in my head... I somehow need to let you all hear it,
The hardest part (right now) is to get that melody to match the lyrics...
For now, here are a few more lines, possibly for the second verse:

It's Friday night and you're roaming free
I'm unaware when you look at me and dismantle all of my dreams
Like a shattered glass, an awakened past
roaming free

*hmm... That's quite poem-like eh?

Day # 3: Possibly a chorus?

I want to be stronger then the light that hits your ground
Even though I'll admit the sound is turning inside out
This is our stop yes this is our stop,
we're home

*For those of you who are wondering who/what these lyrics are about...
My answer: I tend to just write lyrics that fit together at the moment, even if they're meaningless. Then, when the song is all finished, I interpret the meaning behind each lyric and fix whatever doesn't work. This method is productive because when you look back at the lyrics, you may see a rare side to yourself that either changes or stays the same throughout the song. The "meaningless" lyrics can ultimately portray one's natural mindset or true characteristics. Try it!

Day # 2: Just one lyric today (I apologize)

My light is shining brighter then your skin
sometimes the night plays tricks when you're with him

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Day # 1: Possibly a first verse?

It's monday night and you got the call
I came outside just to let you know what's really going on
Tonight the music lets me know
what rhythm makes you lose control when you're out of line
we've got no time to delay

*I made a basic melody to go with these lyrics so they'll be easier to transform into a song later on...
Right now, I have a couple chords in my head that I definitely want to try to incorporate within the song...
When this song is complete, I'll put the lyrics, chords, and hopefully a recording up...

Introduction:

I have decided to write a bunch of lyrics once a day so that by the end of a week or two weeks, I can start adding music and transforming the writing into songs. I already have a YouTube channel up where I record covers with guitar and vocal, so this will help me create a few originals for that channel. The daily practice will ultimately improve my writing, but at the same time, encourage me to practice guitar 2 times a day as opposed to once a day. Keep up with me, it should be fun!
